Product Review: Honeybuns

When it comes to gluten free cakes there’s a vast amount to choose from, but very few are actually any good. This brand, though, is a gem.

Honeybuns gluten free cakes are apparently made with love in Dorset. I’m not entirely sure how the presence of love alters a cake’s taste, but I think it’s safe to say it can’t be a bad thing.

I’ve sampled a few of their cakes over the years, cake connoisseur that I am. The brownies and caramel shortbread are all well and good, but I’ve got to tell you about my favourite one, because it’s just so bloody brilliant.

The Amondi biscuit is rich, chewy, chock-a-block full of almonds and totally bad for you. And I love it. It’s got a bit of a citrus kick to offset the sickly sweetness of the cookie, but I think it’s the texture that makes it truly great. So many gluten-free cookies and biscuits have that dry, crumbly texture making them taste all of dust and not much else. This one doesn’t. It’s got the texture of an actual, proper cookie. So you must try it. You must!

I’m not the only one who loves Honeybuns. They’ve been winning many an award of late. Their range is all gluten and wheat-free, and some of it’s also dairy-free. They do cakes, brownies, flapjacks, shortbreads, cookies and a new range of savoury treats which I’m yet to try, but they’re definitely on my list!

You can order Honeybuns products from their online shop – they’re also stocked in plenty of cafes, delis, farm shops, supermarkets and their own Bee Shack Cafe. I saw them in Tossed the salad place the other day. Delighted, I was!
